At Tom Plumb Plumbing and Maintenance Services, we’re here to help and there’s no greater satisfaction for us than diagnosing and localising the issue, and then providing the appropriate solution that’s suited to that specific plumbing problem.
We take our business very seriously at Tom Plumb Plumbing and Maintenance Services and in order to provide the best possible service to each and every customer, a call out fee is chargeable.
Our call out fees generally cover the following items to maintain our high-quality standards:
• The time required reaching your location
• The fuel costs of travelling to your location
• Plumbing vehicle maintenance to ensure efficient service
• Insurances
• Fees to ensure Plumbing Licenses are kept up to date
• General administration e.g. invoicing and accounting
The first may mean that your plumber might not be able to afford business expenses required to hold the necessary insurance and licenses of a quality plumber. At Tom Plumb Plumbing and Maintenance Services, you can be sure that all of our licenses and memberships are up to date.
The second reverts back to the ‘you get what you pay for’ mentality. A plumber that isn’t charging enough money to complete the job effectively is highly likely to use quick, temporary solutions or equipment that is all too likely to cause further (possibly irreparable) damage down the track.
Third and last, if you employ a plumber to do contract work, such as a kitchen and bathroom renovation, and their plumbing business goes bankrupt in the middle of your work – you won’t be able to get your money back.

Pricing
We know that it can be difficult for customers to try and establish the exact cost of plumbing services. That’s why at Tom Plumb Plumbing and Maintenance Services we try to make the process as transparent as possible. We do this by only quoting fixed prices for jobs and plumbing services provided. That way you know precisely how much the job will cost and you won’t have to worry about any nasty surprises when you receive the bill.
The exact price we charge is dependent on a number of factors, including:
The time allocated, materials involved, and equipment required for the completion of the job.
Some jobs take longer than others. For example, if you only need to fix a leaky tap, it should only take a couple of hours max. However, a complete bathroom fit-out will take a few days and cost significantly more.
Tom Plumb Plumbing and Maintenance Services cover the Melbourne Eastern Suburbs, but we can carry out plumbing jobs across the Melbourne area. We charge a fixed fee for covering the Melbourne area, but the exact amount charged would depend on the distance we have to travel.
Don’t let this discourage you though. Bear in mind that actual travel time only represents a small percentage of your bill. Sometimes it is better to pay more for a plumber you know will carry out quality work than trust an unknown plumber in your local area who charges less.
At Tom Plumb Plumbing and Maintenance Services we always factor in the quality of fixtures and fittings that are required to carry out the job. We never compromise on the quality of the components we use but sometimes we may be able to recommend a cheaper alternative.
If you need a plumber in an emergency you may be charged more, especially after hours, on the weekend or a public holiday. We will notify you of our emergency call-out fee before we attend.
Unlike other plumbers, we only quote fixed fees for jobs. This allows you to know exactly how much the job will cost and ensures you won’t get an unpleasant surprise when you receive the bill.
The short answer is yes. While we know there are plumbers who don’t charge call-out fees, we feel that this practice compromises the quality of work.
